Kill Vilzin is a mixture of oldschool roguelike gameplay with turn-based strategy games such as Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy Tactics, or Shining Force.

Lead a team of up to five adventurers into the dungeon to stop the evil wizard Vilzin. Your team can consist of any combination of five classes, or with any number of randomly chosen classes. Progressing through the dungeon will advance your abilities and teach you new ones. Gems and magic scrolls can help your team in dangerous situations. Your entire party can access the shared inventory on their turn.

Rules

Turns consist of a Move Action and a Turn Action. The Move Action can be skipped, going directly to the Turn Action. After moving, the player can edit their move to find the right spot for lining up that perfect shot. Alternatively, the movement can be confirmed, revealing anything that is visible from the destination. Using an item counts as a Turn Action.

Turns occur whenever an entity reaches 100 AP or more. If no one has enough AP, the world will advance a Tick and everyone will gain AP equal to their current Energy. Additionally any duration effects such as Damage Over Time or Chill have a chance to activate when advancing a tick. Killing monsters or using certain abilities will grant XP, which can be used to level up and Upgrade. Upgrading gives a choice of five options to the player, augmenting core stats or specific skills. Additionally Upgrade Orbs can be found throughout the dungeon, granting 1-3 Upgrades on use.

Potions can be used to recover missing health and gems can be used for improving a character's stats. Two potions and gems of the same type and level can be combined together into one of the next level. Equipping a gem or combinding potions or gems together are free actions, but drinking a potion is a Turn Action.

Stairs can be taken by any player character, and the entire party will descend immediately. On some floors, the stairs will be locked behind a door, and a Boss Fight must be completed to unlock it.
