Varon Sector is a game I made for the 48 hour Ludum Dare 22 game jam in 2011.


The game is very short with five levels, though the final level is an unwinnable infinite challenge.


The most creative part of the project was a control system I had for adapting SHMUP to allowing movement in multiple directions. Players can swap their current target, and bullets will fire parallel to each other towards the target. One of eight directions will be chosen to fire in. If all enemies were to the right of the player, this would bring the game to a right-scrolling SHMUP.


Spinning spike balls of doom are an important part of any platforming game.


All graphics were poorly drawn by me in the last hours of the game jam.


Levels were planned out on paper and painstakingly typed into text files.
